太陽が燃えているようにみえるのは、炎ではなくて水素ガス。
水素は毎秒ごとにヘリウムにかわり、
太陽は確実に400万トンずつ軽くなっている。
この減った重さが熱と光に姿をかえて、恩恵をもたらしているそうです。
やがて燃料の水素を使い果たし、中心にヘリウムばかりがたまると、
太陽は風船をふくらますようにどんどんふくれはじめ、
地球をものみこむ巨大な星になり、
果ては宇宙の中に消えていくであろうと書かれてあります。

今回登場する白いインコは、わたしにとっては虚無の存在。
赤いインコが表面で燃えたぎる一方で、
爆発をくりかえしながら、からっぽになっている。
命をもたらすほどのエネルギーの裏側で、
虚無に向かっているイメージをインコたちに託しました。

In a picture book of seasonal stars my parents bought for me when I was ten years old, there was an image of the sun's surface. Its burning red flames seemed to me like a swarm of animated budgies. 
On the surface of the sun, it is not flames but hydrogen. The process of its Hydrogen turning to helium means the sun sheds 4million tons every second. The loss of weight creates light and heat which we, as inhabitants of the earth, are the beneficiaries. Later in its life, all the hydrogen will be consumed, producing large amounts of helium in the sun's centre making it resemble a blowing balloon. According to the book, eventually the sun will morph into a huge star swallowing the earth and disappearing into the universe.
The white budgies presence in this work is a reflection of the emptiness of their existence. 
While the red budgies burn fiercely on the surface, the continuous explosions inside the sun create an emptiness inside. The image of this huge energy moving towards nothingness is like life. This is what I am trying to illustrate.
